The Norwegians have an expression - Det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlige klær - which translated means -

There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing - surely this applies to bowls in this summer's weather.

Here is a competitions update

Stroud Valley Ladies Triples

Our ladies have new players this year which is fantastic to see. They have played three matches so far. Their first match was against Victory Park, a strong team, and our ladies lost 8-0 overall. The next match was a better performance against Wotton-under-Edge and they won by 8-0, 39 shots to 16. It's great to see Sue and Tracy making their debuts. The third match was away at Tetbury and succumbed to the weather and it was abandoned after 8 ends, The result stands as 7-1 to Tetbury.

South Cotswold League

Malmesbury lost at home to Cirencester A by 2-8 on points and 56-62 on shots, a close game that could have gone either way. The following week, Malmesbury beat Cotswold B by 6-4 on points and 51-43 on shots, a good victory. Finally, Malmesbury travelled to play a strong Victory Park B team and lost by 2-8 on points and 40-60 on shots.

The team had a bye this week and they are currrently third in the table with a game in hand. The division table can be viewed here https://www.southcotswoldbowls.co.uk/?page_id=87. Their next game is away at Nailsworth Mills B on Tuesday 16 July.

Wiltshire Four Rink League

Malmesbury won thier first away game on grass at Trowbridge Westbourne. Unfortunately their next home game against Corsham was cancelled as Corsham could not field a team. The results will be determined by a panel at the end of the season.

Malmesbury travelled to Avon in Melksham and met a very strong side. As six regular players were missing, Malmesbury lost 0-14 on points. Thank you to those players who put their hands up for the club and stepped up a level to play a difficult game away. It is most appreciated.

The next two matches were at home, and Malmesbury took full advantage of playing on our artificial surface. Malmesbury beat Devizes by 14-0 on points and 84-43 on shots, and Chippenham Park by 12-2 on points and 94-37 on shots.

The division table can be viewed here https://www.bowlswiltshire.co.uk/mens-four-rink-league-south/ Malmesbury remain 6th in the table. Next week, the team will make the long journey to Wilton.

County and National Competitions

In the National Pairs, Neil and Paul won away at Marlborough and lost to Swindon in the next round, and Alan and Bryan lost to Chippenham Town.

There was better news in the County Over 60s Triples, Neil, Alan and Paul won against Supermarine at home, and play Devizes away in the next round. Roy, Tim and Brian won against Pewsey Vale and play Chippenham Town away on Friday 12th July.
